Reading: Luke 14
“So you cannot become my disciple without giving up everything you own.”
Sometimes I feel that the world we live in, in it’s very shape, and structure, is making us less than human.
We are conditioned to consume, to produce, to do, to go, go, go. We move through the world, but rarely stop. to be in it.
We move past one another, we use one another, but we often fail to see each other.
When Jesus is saying that to follow Him we must give up all we have, I believe he’s serious. I also believe that as we live out this ethic of radical generosity, sacrifice, and service, we are not only joining the Divine in the Liberation of others, but that we ourselves are being Liberated.
The cost of following Jesus is great. I am not the same person I was when this journey started. My life is not what I had dreamed it would be, it’s a lot harder than I’d imagined. But, as I’ve walked this path, as I’ve been freed to Love others, and Liberated from the bondage of Success and Financial Security, I’ve felt myself become more, human. More me.
This is not an easy path, and often I feel inadequate, unable to fully do justice to the cause. I fail often.
But, this path is not about success, it’s about putting one foot in front of the other. It’s about faithfulness.
So I follow, and I stumble, and I fall, but as we journey together, Jesus and I, I know I am being freed.
